High Tea @ Bistro Fax

If you're after a quite place to relax on a lazy Sunday afternoon, Bistro Fax is the place.

Bistro Fax Restaurant & Bar is located in a newly designed space on the corner of O’Connell Street inside the Radisson Plaza Hotel Sydney. The heritage-listed building was once owned by the Fairfax newspaper empire.

The boutique tea room provides a warm atmosphere to sink into a comfortable throne lounge and enjoy a few drinks and light snacks.

$40 per person with unlimited cups of tea or coffee.
If you're after a boozy meal, $45 with a glass of Brown Brothers Zibibbo Rosa.

The kitchen will send out more of the items you like, which is essential if you want value for money.

A platter of sweet treats and sandwiches.

Savouries.

Smoked salmon and creme fraiche dill tart.

Open sandwiches of;
Rare roast beef and horseradish.

Crab and corn.

Chicken and avocado.

Sweets.

Orange cake with raspberry.

Caramel slice.

Lemon tart.

Chocolate cannoli.

Citrus friand.

Our tea pot and coffee cup are topped up several times. We decide on some more of the open sandwiches, the sugar hit is definitely adequate.

Let's Do Brunch @ Cafe Ish

The Crave Sydney Food Festival 2010 has started. It dedicates the whole month of October to food and has heaps of events and promotions to showcase what Sydney has to offer.

One of my favourite events is Let's Do Brunch. Select restaurants and cafes around the city are offering a $25 set menu on weekends. So diners can arrive late morning, relax and enjoy a sample of signature items.

This year Cafe Ish on Campbell Street, Surry Hills has a Bush inspired Brekkie with a Japanese twist. Served between 9am - 2:30pm and is amazing value.

We start off with their signature coffee, a wattle macca-cino. A Numero Uno cappuccino with macadamia syrup and a hint of wattle, looks and tastes amazing.

Chef Joshua Nicholls has whipped up a Kara-age soft shell crab omelette with garlic, chilli, soy ginger dressing, avocado, shallot and lemon myrtle.
Stuffed with heaps of crab, intense flavour softened by the avocado.

Season with your choice of Szechuan, Green Tea or Murry River Salt.

A smaller portion of their Breakfast trifle with "lush yogurt" native berry compote and house-made muesli is just the right size to finish off the meal.
The hibiscus flowers were a nice touch and brought back memories of our degustation at Attica.

If you can manage to fit anything else in Ish has a huge variety of house-made biscuits, slices and muffins to satisfy any sweet tooth.

As we leave Head Barista, Ai Mashima meets us outside and I get the chance to have a chat about our delightful meal and a little bit of what's to come at Cafe Ish. I'm very happy to hear she plans on hosting Japanese High Tea and a traditional tea ceremony.

She also plans for lessons on different green tea and sake, I hope I'm invited.

For a very friendly brunch or just a cup of great coffee pop into Cafe Ish.
